John was born in 1826 he was about 35 years old when he enlisted 12 Jan 1862 at Bennettsville, Marlboro Co. SC in Co E 4th SC Cavalry. He has 14 cards in his archival file. He has a horse. He was mustered at Georgetown by Henry Edens for the war. It seems he had an adjustment problem as he was arrested and was in the guard house on 30 July 1863. 3 Feb 1863 he has no horse and is considered dismounted infantry. 31 May 1864 he is wounded in the side in battle at Richmond, Va and is given a wounded furlough on 9 June 1864. In Sept 1864 he is a patient in Wayside Hosp # 9 in Richmond Va.. No Dx given. He is transferred 10 Oct 1864 to Steward Hosp. at Richmond with remarks on card: Marion C. H. SC. He survived the war and died 5 Feb 1915 and is buried along side his wife [ my 3rd cousin 2 x removed Martha A Collins ] at McLucas aka Askew Cem. Clio. Marlboro Co. SC
