Josiah was 13 years old in 1860. born 9 Sept 1847 in Jackson, Union Co NC. He has 15 cards in his archival file. He enlisted 10 March 1862 in Capt Bryce's Co. and was sent to Camp Maugum, near Raleigh, NC [ Camp of Instruction] He was mustered into Confederate service 26 May 1862. Assigned to General Martin's & Kirkland's Brigade. Saw duty in Tarboro, NC and along the Chowan River. Fought at Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Ware Bottom and with the Army of Tennessee at Sugar Loaf. His father Noah and his grand father Joseph Thomas Baucom also were in the fight. He died 25 May 1887 and is buried in Tirzah Presbyterian Church at Waxhaw, Union County NC. He is the father in law of wife of 4rh Cousin 3 x removed.
