Brooks, Samuel H. Died of wounds 4/6/62. 'Samuel Brooks of our Co. is wounded in the arm. I hear the ball has been extracted and he is doing well.' Salem Observer (Salem, MA). Letters from the Army. Charlie to Mother, March 15, 1862. . March 22, 1862 Volume XL, Issue 12, page 2 'Samuel H. Brooks, received a wound in the battle of March 14th, and, after a short stay in the hospital at this place, went to his home in Salem, there to linger with his friends but a few days, then expire. Salem Register (Salem, MA) To the Editors of the Salem Register. May 20, 1862 from Co. F. June 5, 1862. Page 2. 'Brooks, Samuel H. — Priv. — Res. Salem; merchant; 26; enl. Oct. 7, 1861 ; must. Dec. 4, 1861 wounded March 14, 1862, Newbern, N. C. ; died April 1, 1862, of wounds, at Salem, Mass., while on furlough.' 'Salem, Essex Co., Ma ''In this city, April 6th, Mr Samuel H. Brooks, 58 yrs 18 days - a member of Co. F, 23d Mass. Regiment. He was buried under arms on Tuesday by the Cadets.
