Enlisted May 27 1861 at Poca, VA -Aug 31 1861 Remarks: Sick leave of absence July 22 1861 -Sep 16 1863 he is on a List of Prisoners Confined in Military Prison at Wheeling, VA (Also known as Atheneum Prison). Lists his age, height, complexion, eye and hair color.. Arrested by whom: 'Gave up' Where: 'Charlestown, VA'. Remarks: Sent to Camp Chase Sept 17 1863. -Sep 7 1863 He was captured and was on a Roll of Prisoners of War at Camp Chase, Ohio, who desire to take the oath and not be sent for exchange, and state that they were conscripts and deserters. -Sept 18 1863(received at Camp Chase, OH) Wheeling WV he was listed on a roll of Prisoners of War. Date of Departure: Jan 22 1864. Remarks: 'Transferred to Rock Island cells' -Jan 24 1864 he was listed on Roll of Prisoners of War at Rock Island Barracks, Ill., received from Camp Chase, Ohio. Roll dated Headquarters Rock Island Barracks Ill., Jan 27, 1864. -May 9 1864 his name appears on an Oath Of Allegiance at Rock Island Barracks, Ill. Place of residence: VA. Complexion: Dark; hair: Light; Eyes: Hazel; Height: 5' 7' at 28 yrs old- no whiskers. -Another undated paper states 'came in and gave up to US forces Charleston, VA.' . By whom captured: 'US Forces'. Occupation: carpenter Francis Breeden was born in 1834 Sissonville, VA and married Mary Sanders in 1855 Kanawha County, VA. He had 8 children and died after 1910. He was the son of William Sanders and Rutha Lucy _____.
