Thomas Branch Jackson enlisted in C Co. 3rd VA. Inf. Regt. on 18 Mar. 1862 at Camp Pemberton?,Va. He was born 20 Apr. 1843, therefore he was 18 years old when he enlisted. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant on 23 Oct. 1862; and subsequently to 3rd Lieutenant on 1 Jan. 1863, after the Battle of Fredericksburg. He served in this same unit with his brother George T Jackson; and half-brother Ashton A. Jackson, who was killed at the Battle of Gaines' Mill on 27 June 1862. Both Lt. Jackson and his brother George; were captured at the Battle of Gettysburg, Pa. on 3 July 1863, while participating in Pickett's Charge on Cemetery Ridge. Lt. Jackson was wounded in both legs, during this assault. He was imprisoned at Johnson Island in Lake Erie; which was a Federal prison for captured Confederate Officers. After the war ended Lt. Jackson moved to Norfolk, Va. where he worked for the Norfolk and Western Railway. Lt. Thomas Jackson became Adjutant of the Pickett-Buchanan Camp of United Confederate Veterans, when it was established in Norfolk, Va. in 1883. He died in Norfolk, Va. on 23 Oct. 1925.
