Riots in France.

What the heck is going on in France? The cause so far I can see for the riots is the death of a young man of Algerian descent. Is racism a big problem in France? Having never been to France I look for anyone with first hand knowledge.

I know they have huge issues with illegal immigrants piling up along the channel ports trying to get into the UK. Others have moved into major cities causing issues. Spent some time there on holiday and never saw any signs of racism or that famous French rudeness everyone talks about. Found them to be very friendly and accommodating to my family.

This really depends who you ask I think. If you ask the average Frenchman, he will probably say that France is no more or less racists than any other country in Europe. If you ask youth from the old North African colonies (or rather children of parents from these areas, as most of these youngsters are born in France), they will tell regular occurrences of police profiling, difficulty to get jobs with the incorrect surname and skin colour etc.
What is the true picture? Hard to say, I suppose the issue becomes more visible in France since they have a fairly large immigrant population from their old colonies in North Africa, and many of these tend to live clustered in certain areas of the bigger cities. You do get the same problems in other European countries too, but usually to a lesser violent extent.
My guess is that there is an element of truth in the claims from both camps, but that the situation is used by extreme elements that wish to stir up trouble regardless.

It appears the movie script of protesting has taken full chock-hold in France. A person is killed, protests (spontaneously?) evolve, attempts to attain some control over the size and purpose of the protests begins, the protestors and rioters in waiting, no longer hold back. The protest transitions too rioting, looting, pillaging and the common man and woman who having zero play in the initiating event, the protests and rioting begin to pay the price for the chaotic rule of the mob.
This is not a judgment on France, rather it is a judgment on rioting of which I have always advocated applying extreme measures against. Law enforcement intel know who the agitators are as they leave a trail of anarchy and public destruction largely unchecked and which the private citizen pays for. Hell at this point, can anyone say clearly why the man was shot? A 38-year-old police sergeant has been officially placed under investigation for voluntary homicide. IMO, I believe that was to placate the community, seems that did not work very well.
I dare say, the story of what happened and why is never known until well after the incident and well after the fires and ash have settled down. But, as shown in France and the USA, let not the death of a criminal go unnoticed as one must burn it all done in the attempt to make things not right but worse.

It`s a rehash of the George Floyd BS.
Guy gets killed by cop. May be a bad shoot, maybe was justified. Don`t know yet. But lets all get together and burn shit down, wreck our community...and get glorified as some kind of heroic justification for the crap we do in response, by media folks who don`t have to live with the long-term consequences. Media who don`t interview the elderly woman who is crying because the CVS Pharmacy that she uses because it`s close by and she can`t drive...is closing for good. The grocery store is closing, the small business owners can`t afford the insurance any more because of the high crime..and the propensity for getting burned down by mob tantrums.
Empty shells and food deserts that the media never highlights, never talks about. Just how justified the mob may be or is.
There were over 200 riots in the US during the George Floyd summer of love, and one has to dig deep to find any stories about all the commercial real estate left empty by business leaving, not coming back. Even big corps choosing to cut their losses and write off these communities. And over what? It`s mindless.
Respects, Morris
