Bits of poop in Moscow

As I note this, I don’t yet believe Ukraine has claimed responsibility for the drone attack on Moscow. I accept their denial without question, of course.

Nevertheless, a couple of low-level drones met the Moscow skyline yesterday. They were probably fired from Japan, in celebration of 118th anniversay of the Battle of Tsushima. That makes more sense, doesn’t it!

More seriously, I wonder how Mr Putin feels today. Didn’t he guaranty that the Ukraine situation would not involve Russian territory? Is it time to adddress him as Meier?

Remember Reichsmarschall Göring’s famous line? Here’s a version of the story, from John Guttman of Historynet:
“Although it has been cited in several variations, the original quotation was given by Resichsmarschall Hermann Göring in a speech to his Luftwaffe in September 1939, after France and Britain declared war and the industrial Ruhr district fell within range of their aircraft. “No enemy bomber can reach the Ruhr,” he assured them. ‘If one reaches the Ruhr, my name is not Göring. You can call me Meyer.’ Meyer and its other regional spellings is a very common name in Germany. Some sources, for added irony, later re-quoted his boast as ‘If one enemy bomb falls on Berlin, you can call me Meyer.’ The fact that Allied bombers did pound the Ruhr, however, was reason enough for Germans to start calling air raid sirens “Meyer’s trumpets,” among numerous other sarcastic references.”

Cheers

There still seems to be a large number of Russians who see justice in Putin's war. Yesterday, Putin was interviewed and he said that those responsible for the drone attacks on Moscow were "terrorists" to be dealt with accordingly. That's rich, isn't it?

But what has happened to the protests against Putin and his aggression. There are Russians who concur with his assessment that Ukraine is the aggressor.

Cheers,

George

In German, just as in English, there are many names given after village occupations. Such as Müller (Miller), Schäfer (Shepherd), Bauer (Farmer) etc. The village Meier, or Meyer depending on the region, was the village "Buttermaker". As this was a very tedious, boring job, it was traditionally given to someone who was not the sharpest tool in the box. This then developed that "Meier" has come to represent your normal, maybe not so bright, guy. You´ll still hear jokes starting " Meier goes into the pub......." or "Meier comes home from work........".

This article sums up an answer to your question about the lack of protests in Russia regarding the war. Overall, Putins' control of the media thus controlling the information Russians read and hear, eradicating political opposition before the war started, and that good old method that man just can't seem to pry its soul away from, physical beatings, torture, intimidation, confiscation, etc.

Thanks Dan. Enlightening article and more than a little alarming. USSR or supposedly democratic Russia, everything seems to stay the same.
