Mystery Military Box
|
As plans are being made to upgrade the Yosemite History Center, this box came to my attention. It may (or may not) be associated with the Cavalry and mounted infantry that patrolled the park from 1891-1913. It is `approx. 20"x26"X12". One person indicated that he believed that it was a footlocker for an officer in the "G Company, 1st Battalion, 42nd Infantry Regiment." Some research shows that this unit was active between 1917-1944, which means it was created after the military left Yosemite in 1913. Any insights, or details about where this box originated?
The only markings on it were: 1 (Smaller font) Image: Crossed rifles) G 42
Sorry that I can't post a photo.
