Gee Larry,
If I want to know anything about either sides army, all I have to do is read the papers!?

Sometimes it's amazing how fast and accurate military information was being shared by the press. Many times information that never should have been printed.

Rather than consign this to the This Day in History thread, I wanted to mark the Third of May by mentioning the dramatic storming of the rebel defences along Marye’s Heights at Fredericksburg, with the Stonewall and the Sunken Road being carried at bayonet point by a brilliant Yankee infantry attack. A very different outcome from what had happened the previous December !
Sedgwick said that he lost a thousand men in ten minutes achieving this success.
The placement here on a thread headed 5-2 1863 is an oversight by me. I’m a day ahead, apologies.
Regards, Phil
