Visited Manassas for the first time two days ago. Great trip but I was surprised by the lack of regimental monuments to the units that fought there. Apparently it didn't have the same hold on the veterans as later battles. Maybe I'm spoiled by Antietam and Gettysburg.

Larry,

Indelible in my memory is a stretch of the line that featured in the Second Mannassas battle.

I visited it thirty eight years ago.

When I had taken a look at the more popular presentation of the First Bull Run , I was disappointed, because I thought it resembled a golf course, and I didn’t feel the vibes .

I then decided to investigate a sector of the Second Battle, and was profoundly impressed by Grover’s Cut.

Relatively unkempt and quite understated, it was atmospheric and deeply evocative. The episode that occurred there was dramatic, and contemplating the story of the intense fighting that took place in that rather overlooked corner of conflict left me deeply affected.

Regards, Phil
