Another first class vignette you’ve given us, Larry.
What a tragic example of the ordeal of the wounded, and it perfectly exemplifies the anguish attendant on this dreadful Union defeat at Fredericksburg.
Editing here : and to think that just as this article was printed, the Northern public was getting news of Stones River, a bloodbath to rival Fredericksburg !

It must have heart wrenching for families with members in the army to read the casualty lists and battle accounts wondering if your loved was going to come home. Larry.
