Hi Larry,

Nice article on Wisconsin's wounded at Gettysburg, just wondering if you have access to a Minnesota Newspaper of the day, reporting on the 1st Minnesota, after their heroic charge & sacrifice plugging that hole in the Union center??

Thanks,
MD

Those Wisconsin wounded in that list were relatively fortunate, in the slight nature of their wounds. In all, Wisconsin furnished 2,133 men to the battle, of whom nearly forty per cent were casualties. In addition to 127 who were killed in action, more than 500 were wounded, of whom 56 died of their wounds.

Regards, Phil

Thanks Larry!

That really hits home! Winfield Scott Hancock tells the 1st Minnesota to plug that hole, & your outnumbered over 10 to 1, & you swallow hard & attack!! Talk about brave!??

What say you?

What say I ?

An epic fit to stand with that of the Spartans at Thermopylae !

Heck, The Three Hundred Spartans , and the Three Hundred Minnesotans…… I wonder if Edward Everett noticed that : he liked making allusions to the Ancient Greeks , didn’t he ?

Maine at Little Round Top , Minnesota at the Centre : what was the common denominator ?

Alabama !
