Larry,

The 14th NC was conspicuous among that state’s contingents at Gettysburg for having suffered few casualties.

According to the Busey study, Frank Harney commanded a company of sharpshooters, and was mortally wounded on Day One, dying the next day.

He succeeeded in capturing the flag of the 150th Pa before he was fatally stricken.

Interesting to read that he had been born in Kentucky, and had no kin in North Carolina.

I often wonder how many of the troops who fought in the regiments in Lee’s army were not native born to the states under whose banner they served.

Regards, Phil
