Company G
John F. Bornheimer - Private
Born Johannes Franz Bornheimer in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, he came to America at the age of six in 1844 and eventually Anglicized his name to 'John Frank'. Settling in the Milwaukee area, he married Carolina Landgraf, and enlisted in Company G, 46th Wisconsin Infantry.

While he and his brother-in-law, George Stegemeyer, both survived the war, Carolina's brother John Landgraf did not. He died of disease while with the 35th Wisconsin in Louisiana, and was buried in New Orleans' Chalmette National Cemetery.

George served with the 1st US Veteran Volunteer Engineers which were attached to the Army of the Cumberland.
