Company B
William Henry Hurt
- Private
William Henry Hurt was born on 5 February 1839 at Spartanburg, South Carolina, the son of Wilson Nesbitt Hurt and Elizabeth Miriam Hurt (nee: Bomar). His brothers and sisters were Joseph Thomas born 22 Dec. 1836, Wilmouth Ann born (exact date unknown, thought to be 1840), Wilson Alexander born 31 March 1841, Adella Minerva born 28 January 1845, Sallie A. born ca. 1846, Ranson Edward, 28 September 1848, Josephine E. (Josie) born 1 August 1851, Alden Bailey born 1854 and Walter Nesbitt born 14 September 1860.

William was on the 1860 Census in Choctaw County, Missississpi.

William Henry Hurt was a trooper (Pvt) in Company B, 10th Texas Cavalry. He enlisted in the new unit on 25 September 1861 (at what town or county - usually on his service papers ). He served in the 10th until 25 June 1862 at which time he was honorably discharged for medical reasons (chronic dysentery). He returned to his parent's home in Kilmichael, Mississippi, after leaving the service. His shattered health continued to decline. Two years later, as he lay dying, he asked his sweetheart, India Bond, to sing to him. She stood at the foot of his bed and, though grief stricken, continued to sing hymns until he died. That was on 11 December 1864. He is buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Kilmichael in Montgomery County, Mississippi. His original discharge papers are in the possession of my father, Col. (Ret.) William C. Hurt of Waynesboro, Mississippi.
