This is my g-g-grandfather. He served in Company C, 138th Regt., Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry from August 20, 1862, until June 23rd, 1865. He had a brother, Charles, who enlisted the same day but deserted in 1864.

Enlisted as a volunteer in Harrisburg at Camp Curtin on August 17, 1862 to serve 3 years.

He was wounded in combat (I think Petersburg - still trying to determine the facts of this), shot in the left shoulder for which he received a pension of eight dollars a month.

He did serve the full 3 years, being discharged on June 23, 1865 having been mustered out of company after the war.

Mustered in August 22 1862 and after serving 3 years of service mustered out June 23 1865. David was born 1836 in Straban township near Gettysburg, PA. The fourth child of Jacob and Sophia Herman. He was a drummer and in his diary mentions the battles of the Wilderness, Cold Harbor, Winchester, and Ceder Creek.

William enlisted 22 Aug 1862, captured at Monocacy, MD on 9 Jul 1864. Brought to Danville, VA, then to Richmond. Paroled at James River, VA on 22 Feb 1865. Reported to Camp Parole, Annapolis, MD on 05 Apr 1865 after 30 day leave. Returned to active duty on 18 Apr 1865. Mustered out with his company near Washington on 23 Jun 1865
